Abstract:Â
In the 2022-2023 Design Elements course (ME 310-311), the class, comprising 12 students, embarked on the ambitious task of conceptualizing and fabricating a fully functional electric-powered bicycle. Within this group of 12, my team of three took on the challenging responsibility of addressing the intricate driver controls of the bicycle. This encompassed a diverse spectrum of components, such as the bike stem, pedals, headset, steerer fork, handlebars, braking system, rotors, axle, and metallic shoe attachment.
We not only designed numerous components from scratch but also subjected them to simulations under specific forces to ensure they met manufacturing standards. Additionally, we honed our skills in crafting machine-ready drawings, which streamlined the production process within our workshop. My time in the machine shop was enriching, providing hands-on experience with a wide array of tools and machines, including the drill press, pipe bender, water jet CNC, sand blaster, lathe, mill, belt sander, and band saw.
